School Absence

If your child is away from school due to illness or for any other reason, please let us know as soon as possible before the start of the first school day of absence and not later than 9.00am.

Parents will need to contact the transport provider as early as possible to let them know that they are not required.

Family holidays should not be taken during term-time.

Home/School Links

At The T3 School, we highly value a strong partnership with our parents and carers. We recognise that a child's learning journey is most successful when school and home work together. As the primary influences in a student's development, open communication and a shared understanding of their aims, needs, priorities, and management are essential.

To facilitate this vital connection, we utilise a range of communication methods. You can expect to receive regular updates and information via telephone calls, text messages, and emails. Furthermore, we actively use Google Classroom to set and share learning activities. This valuable tool not only supports classroom-based work but also ensures continuity of learning for students who may be unable to attend school. Through Google Classroom, students can access assignments, resources, and communicate with their teachers remotely.

In addition to these ongoing communications, we hold parent/carer consultation evenings during the autumn and summer terms. These dedicated events provide a valuable opportunity for you to come into school, discuss your child's progress, address any questions or concerns, and, most importantly, celebrate their achievements with their teachers. We look forward to partnering with you in your child's education.

Annual Review

A statutory annual review is held every year for each student at the school. Written reports are requested from all those professionals involved with the child. The annual meeting provides an opportunity for consideration of progress and recommendation for any necessary amendments to the child’s Educational Healthcare Plan (EHCP). This also includes a progress report by the class tutor.

School Progress Reports are prepared and sent home twice a year and parents/carers are invited to discuss these with the staff at the Parent Consultation evening.

Medication

When a child’s doctor has prescribed a certain course of medication, and this medication needs to be administered during the school day, the following rules must be observed:

1. Medicines must NEVER be handed to the child, (unless it is agreed between school/home/GP that the young person is responsible enough to do so). They must be given to the escort on the child’s transport to be brought into school.

2. Medicines must be in their original packaging with the pupil’s name, dose and administration instructions on it.

3. The Head Teacher must be informed of any change of dosage IN WRITING. Verbal messages are not sufficient.

If a child is on a long-term course of medication at home, it is useful to the school to be kept informed of this, even if daytime dosages are not required. Many of our students do have medication with regular lunchtime doses which school staff administers. There may be other medical procedures that we are able to cooperate with, given the relevant training, so if you have any concerns, please do ask us.

Behaviour and Discipline

At T3 School we believe all pupils have responsibility for their own actions. Supporting our pupils to make choices and to understand that they must take responsibility for their own actions is an important part of their learning. It supports the school’s aim that our pupils leave the T3 School respectful of and as positive contributors to their communities and their peers. At T3 School pupils are responsible for ensuring that they understand the school’s rules, behave appropriately and fully understand the consequences and rewards resulting from the decisions and actions they take. School rules and Codes of Conduct are clearly communicated and displayed, and all pupils are asked to sign the School’s Home School Agreement alongside their parents/carers.

Where there are instances of inappropriate behaviour, pupils will always be warned about the consequences of their choice – whether to continue in the behaviour or to take an alternative course of action (where required this will be clearly explained). This allows pupils to make an informed choice and to take responsibility

Pupils are expected to:

• Show respect to members of staff and each other
• In class, ensure that their behaviour does not disrupt the learning of others
• Move quietly around the school
• Treat the school buildings and school property with respect
• Wear the correct uniform at all times
• Accept sanctions when given
• Refrain from behaving in a way that brings the school into disrepute, including when outside school

Positive behaviour will be rewarded with:

• Praise
• Certificates
• Phone calls home to parents/carers
• Postcards home
• Special responsibilities/privileges

The school may use one or more of the following sanctions in response to unacceptable behaviour:

• A verbal correction
• Sending the pupil out of the class
• Expecting work to be completed at home, or at break or lunchtime
• Catch up at break or lunchtime, or after school
• Saturday catch up
• Referring the pupil to a senior member of staff
• Letters or phone calls home to parents
• Agreeing a behaviour contract
• Putting a pupil ‘on report’ or an individual programme of support

During lessons pupils may be sent to a quiet area away from class if they are disruptive, they will be expected to complete the same work as they would in class.

Safeguarding

Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are our students. We take the safety and well-being of our children very seriously at The T3 School. This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and Child Protection Procedures in place. All staff, including our volunteers and supply staff, must ensure that they are aware of our procedures and policy. Parents and carers are welcome to read these on request. They are readily available and you can request a paper copy to be sent home.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will always ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with their parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this is not in the child’s best interests.

Complaints

It is hoped that few complaints will be made about the education provided at The T3 School. We recognise, however, that from time to time it is possible that dissatisfaction may be expressed about the school. These procedures outline how such complaints will be addressed.

The school welcomes both formal and informal comments on its working and will welcome any complaint so that school procedures can be improved. Every complaint will be received by the school with respect and courtesy.

● All complaints will be addressed quickly and efficiently.

● Urgent complaints will be identified as such and given priority.

● All complaints will be investigated fully, fairly and carefully.

● Complainants will be kept informed to progress. When a decision is taken, or the complaint settled, the complainant will be given the opportunity to appeal or refer the complaint to the Education Office if they are not satisfied.
